San Salvador visits LA Maritime Museum

San Pedro – San Salvador, the full-scale replica of the first European vessel to explore California’s coastline, will make her first voyage to San Pedro at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, October 6-11, 2017. The visit is part of the Pacific Heritage Tour and is sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles Community Investment Grant Program, the Friends of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, and the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

San Salvador’s visit commemorates the 1542 expedition led by explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo aboard the original San Salvador. Among his travels, Cabrillo sighted San Pedro Bay as well as present-day San Diego Bay, where the full-scale, seaworthy replica of his flagship galleon was built by skilled shipwrights and volunteers under the auspices of the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

San Salvador dockside tours are scheduled Friday, October 6 through Sunday, October 8 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tickets are $12.00 for, $7 for children/students 17 and under. Children under 5 are free. Ticket prices include a tour of San Salvador, entrance to the dockside exhibits, and admission to Los Angeles Maritime Museum.

In addition to the ship tours, 4-hour day sails will be offered aboard San Salvador at $99 per person ($59.00 for children) Monday, October 9 through Wednesday, October 11. Space is limited.
